New Lisle 202 Board Member Kari Altpeter

New board member joins District 202

    Two incumbents and one newcomer were elected to four-year terms on the Lisle School District 202 Board of Education as a result of the April 17 election.
   Janna Sampson, who has served as the board secretary,was re-elected. She has been a school board member since 2003.  She is a member of the Lisle School District Home and School Association; the Lisle Community Schools Booster Club since 1997; a member of Citizens
for Responsible and Appropriate Development in Lisle since 1998; and was on the Lisle Economic Development Commission from 2001-03.
   Sam Russo, who has been a board member since 2003, also was re-elected. His community involvement includes the Indian Boundary YMCA Adventures Guides and Princesses programs since 2001.
   Newcomer Kari Altpeter, formerly a regional quality control manager with LaSalle Bank, has been a homemaker for the past 12 years and has two children in the school district. She has been on the board of directors for Partners for Parks since 2005 and was a team leader for Citizens for Educational Excellence from 2003-04. She has been a Junior Great Books facilitator since 2003; is on the Schiesher Elementary School Advisory Council since 2003 and has been a volunteer with Home Delivered Meals since 1998. She is a member of the Lisle Heritage Society, the Lisle Woman's Club, the Lisle Home and School Organization and is a Girl Scout leader.
   “I’m excited about working with everyone on the board,” she said.“I look at the first year as a learning experience.  You’re getting acclimated to holding a seat on the board.”
   Altpeter, a resident of Lisle for more than nine years, said she enjoys being involved in the community and with the schools.  “I love that my kids can go everywhere and know everybody,” she said.“We love everything about this town.”
   The newly elected board members were sworn in at a special meeting of the Board of Education on May 8.
