News in the Schiesher Library

Books to Buy, Books to Share, Books to Exchange

In the LRC during the months of April and May, three programs involving the purchasing, sharing, and exchanging of books are taking place. The HSO sponsored “Scholastic Half Price Book Fair” will be running from Monday, April 7 through Friday, April 11. Students can purchase books during their regularly scheduled LRC time, and daily during their lunch recess time. Additionally, the Book Fair will be open Thursday evening during the Kindergarten/Third Grade Open House. This is the second book fair offered to Schiesher families during this school year, but this one is especially popular because all the books and other items are half price. Students and staff sincerely appreciate the entire effort Book Fair chairperson, Beth Eckerd and the many other HSO parent volunteers put into this program.

Partnering with the HSO, the Schiesher School Reading Incentive Committee is concurrently running the “Share the Book Fair” spring fundraiser. Teachers have been collecting quarters donated by students in the classroom; and students, parents, and staff are also donating their “spare change” when they visit the Book Fair. The money will be used to purchase books for school aged children who are in need of books. We hope to raise over $200.00 in this fundraiser which would allow us to purchase $400.00 worth of books at the book fair!

In early May, another favorite student event, the annual “Student Book Exchange” will again be held in the Schiesher LRC. In the spirit of recycling and sharing the joy of reading, students who would like to participate can bring to school their “gently used” books which they can exchange for others. Look for a letter with details coming home soon from HSO chairperson, Kari Altpeter.
