Climb Theater
Inspiring Young People
For the last three years the HSO has sponsored actor-educators from Climb Theatre to present three different topics to our junior high students. The topics are part of the counseling program to help students understand how to make decisions on various issues. The presentations are done in the social studies classrooms and this format gives students an opportunity to participate and contribute to the discussion. Climb Theater's presentations this year were: 6th grade - Conflict Resolution, 7th grade - Cyber-bullying, and 8th grade - Gateway Drugs. Each topic included various activities and student involvement to show students how the situations can develop and what they can do to handle them effectively. Skits were incorporated into the presentations to help students visualize the various concepts.
Climb Theatre is located in Inver Grove Heights, a suburb or Minneapolis/St.Paul. It is a non-profit company that is nationally recognized for providing programming to K-12 schools for the past 33 years. It was originally started as a theatre company for persons with disabilities and has evolved to offering programs for all students. They have received numerous awards such as “The Best New Children’s Theatre in America Award” from the American Theatre Association and was twice commissioned by the Smithsonian Institute to write, produce, and perform classic children’s tales at its Discovery Theatre in Washington, D.C.
