EIGHTH GRADE LITERATURE
BASIC TEXT: Literature - 8
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Appropriate text; pen; loose-leaf paper; loose-leaf binder, trapper, or folder; notebook (no spiral notebook paper for homework assignments); assignment notebook
CURRICULUM:
- The short story
- Drama
- Nonfiction
- Poetry
- Novel study
- The Giver
- No Promises in the Wind
- The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
- The Pigman
- The Outsiders
PURPOSE: To develop a thorough understanding of the basic elements of fiction, short stories, and novels; to develop an understanding of literary techniques and how they contribute to a work of literature; to develop and understanding of literature and noted authors; to apply literature to life.
RESPONSIBILITIES: To have required materials and text in class every day; to have homework completed on time; to be in class, seated and quiet, when the bell rings; to make up all assignments after an absence; to keep notebook and assignment notebook up to date.
BASIS FOR GRADES: Homework and class assignments; quizzes; tests
GRADING PERCENTAGES: 93-100 = A; 85-92 = B; 75-84 = C; 67-74 = D
LATE WORK: one day = 75% credit; two days = 50% credit; three days or more late = B.E.A.R.S. credit and possible referral.
