Author Andrea Beaty Inspires and Entertains Schiesher Elementary Students
Have you ever asked yourself, “What if?” After a visit by Naperville children’s book author, Andrea Beaty, the students at Schiesher School were busy asking “what if” to create their own ideas for writing stories. They were inspired by Andrea, who captivated the imaginations of Schiesher’s kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth grade students. She was invited to the school by the LRC director, Sue Jakalski, to help inspire and encourage children’s writing and love of reading. She read parts of her books, Doctor Ted, When Giants Come to Play, and the soon to be released, Attack of the Fluffy Bunnies. Then, to demonstrate the process of how to create stories, students were engaged in interactive story telling with her as they created stories together, supplying sound effects, reading lines, adding plot twists, and dressing in t-shirts and boxer shorts designed for giants. Each presentation ended with a question and answer session that students enthusiastically used to discover how long it took Andrea to write her books and get them published, what inspired her to write, if she always want to be a writer and wrote books as a child, and, most importantly, does she have any other new books coming out and when. It was quite an adventure for the students to meet Andrea Beaty and they are remembering her “what if” prompt as they to continue to write their own stories at Schiesher School.
