Fourth Graders Become Engineers
May 26, 2010
Because of a very generous grant from the Lisle Foundation, our fourth graders were able to take part in a wonderful learning opportunity entitled, “Kids Design Engineering,” through the DuPage Children’s Museum. In this highly acclaimed three-session program, students incorporate science, math, art, and technology to solve engineering problems using a pneumatic power system. Our fourth graders were challenged to design a vehicle that could travel two feet on land, in water, or in the air using pneumatic power. Students were actively engaged in all three sessions where they followed the scientific method each step of the way: awareness, tool practice, project plan, build time, test time, and retest time. Our culminating activity took place at the DuPage Children’s Museum. We are proud to say that all of our students met the challenge and are officially DuPage Children’s Museum “Engineers.” They were able to take their prize vehicle home to share their accomplishments with their families. It was a very valuable learning experience for everyone. Thank you, Lisle Foundation!
