Connecting Math Concepts: Success for Students needing Math Support
Connecting Math Concepts is helping some students make significant gains in their math achievement. This year, Schiesher staff introduced the intervention program to students in grades three through five who needed additional support with their math skills. Students were selected if they demonstrated a need for additional math support in addition to the support they already received in the classroom. Connecting Math Concepts focuses on the big ideas of mathematics and teaches students to make multiple connections between math theories. Students using this program learn how to become capable problem solvers and to apply critical thinking skills to math problems they encounter. These students are monitored weekly to ensure that they are making progress. The targeted students’ scores have shown significant growth in both applied and computational math skills from when they began the program.
