March 2012 School Board Highlights
Special Education Transportation Contract Approved
As recommended by SASED, the Board approved the special education transportation contract with Septran for both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years. District 202 has been satisfied with Septran’s past performance. The terms of the contract are consistent with the Consumer Price Index changes over the past few years.
School Calendar Approved
The final calendar for the 2012-13 school year was approved. Teachers will report for duty on August 16 and the first day of student attendance will be August 20. The end of the year is scheduled to be May 30, 2013 if no emergency days are used. Any emergency days would result in adjusting the calendar as necessary.
2012-13 Staffing Report
Enrollment projections and the resulting staffing needs for the 2012-13 school year were reviewed and approved. To facilitate increased integration of technology in our classrooms, an increase of one certified technology instructor was approved. Also a part-time language arts teacher at Lisle Jr. High was approved in order to maintain class sizes consistent with District goals.
Alignment with Common Core Standards
Administrators presented our progress in aligning our curriculum with the new core standards in language arts and math. Activities have been implemented to determine the extent to which all of our curricular areas are currently aligned. Professional development will focus on identification of areas in which further alignment should be implemented and how assessment can best be used to measure growth in the common core areas.
