Morning Arrival Time
For safety and security reasons, our school doors are not open until 7:30 AM each morning. Supervision of our gymnasium (where a majority of our students go to each morning), hallways, LRC, and classrooms begins at 7:30 AM. We cannot allow students to be unsupervised at any time. Please time your arrival at school with the opening of the doors at 7:30 AM or later. Thank you.
Also, as per Board policy 8:30, all visitors to the school buildings during regular school hours are required to report to the Building Principal’s office and receive permission to remain on school property. All visitors must sign a visitors’ log, show identification, wear a visitor’s badge, and submit a driver’s license to be scanned. When leaving the school building, visitors must exit the building according to school policy. On those occasions when large groups of parents and friends are invited onto school property, visitors are not required to sign in but must follow school officials’ instructions. Persons on school property without permission will be directed to leave and may be subject to criminal prosecution.

Laws Regarding School Buses in Traffic
Drivers are reminded that Illinois State Law requires that you must stop before meeting or overtaking a school bus loading or unloading passengers. You must remain stopped until the stop signal arm is no longer extended and the flashing lights are turned off. This law applies to when our school buses have their stop arms out in the morning when students are dropped off and after school when the buses are loading. Penalties include a fine of $150 and a three month drivers license suspension.

Information for the Cafeteria Computerized Payment System for School Meals
We are pleased to announce the school district is utilizing a Cafeteria Computerized Payment System for School Meals. We encourage all families to register on www.mySchoolBucks.com where you can sign up for automatic alerts and view your student's lunch account. There is no cost for viewing your student lunch account.
Families now have two ways to pay:
- Cash or check can be sent to the main office in an envelope with your student.
- Parents may log onto www.mySchoolBucks.com and pay by credit card to place money into the student.s account.
- Go to www.mySchoolBucks.com for more detailed information on how to register, add students to your family account, and make a deposit.
- The convenience fee per transaction will cost $1.95.
- mySchoolBucks has the following payment methods available for use: Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Electronic Check.
- Parents may fund up to $120 per student, but a family may pay for all of their students on a single transaction.

If your child has qualified for free or reduced meal prices, this information is noted in the system, and the meal will be processed just as it is for all other students without any special indication to the students.
We expect there to be a short learning curve while the students will either be using their ID/Library Card or entering a PIN into a key pad for access to their meal accounts.

LJHS "Tip Line"
We now have a Lisle Junior High School Tip Line. This anonymous phone line will allow students and/or parents to leave a voicemail message to alert school officials to incidents including, but not limited to, bullying, potential violence, use or sale of drugs, weapons in the school, or other matters directly related to our school and students. Efforts will be placed on confidentiality and concerns will be addressed in a timely manner.
The purpose of this tip line is to enhance and to provide a safe and orderly school environment, stopping problems before they start, and addressing situations quickly. All we ask is that the calls are truthful, factual, and express a genuine concern that is not vindictive in nature. The "Tip Line" number is 630-493-8212 and can be accessed 24 hours a day.

Starting Fall of 2013 all students entering, advancing, or transferring into 6th-12th grades will be required to show proof of receipt of one dose of Tdap vaccine (combined tetanus, diptheria, acellular pertussis) regardless of the interval since the last DTaP, DT, or Td dose. 24-Hour Attendance Line
If your student is absent from school please telephone BEFORE 8:00 AM each day. Our attendance line is active 24 HOURS A DAY. So you may call this number anytime during the evening or night if you know your student will not be in school.
From the Principal
Over the next few years you will notice some changes to instruction and assessment at our junior high school, especially in the areas of mathematics and language arts.
In June of 2010, the Illinois State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which are a national set of learning expectations for college and career success that were developed by teachers, parents, school administrators, and education experts. Illinois is one of forty six states that have adopted the CCSS. The standards were developed out of a partnership between the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association and are not an initiative of the federal government.
Since June of 2010, we have begun to prepare to implement the new standards in a variety of ways. Our teachers have met with consultants for training, participated in professional development, worked during the summer months to develop curriculum and assessments, used PLC time to align instruction, and teachers at all levels have met together to discuss articulation and examine curriculum.
These newly adopted standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn in K-12 math and language arts. While there are many similarities between the existing Illinois State standards and the CCSS, there are changes in what content is emphasized and the grade in which the content is taught
In English/Language Arts, the transition is made less difficult due to the fact that the current Illinois State Learning standards are similar to the new English/Language Arts Common Core standards. However, the new English/Language Arts Common Core does require more rigor, focuses on reading comprehension, and includes a heavier emphasis on writing, grammar, informational text, thinking skills, and literacy across the curriculum.
Implementation of the new Common Core Standards for Mathematics is much more challenging. The new math curriculum does not isolate math skills into specific categories such as Algebra, Geometry, etc. Instead, math concepts are integrated with one another. Students will be engaged in more problem solving and problem based learning. There will continue to be Academically Talented (AT) classes offered to students in 6th through 8th grades.
We will all have to adjust to not only new standards but also a new way of teaching and learning mathematics. The new standards at the junior high school level will be will be implemented over the next three school years beginning with 6th grade this year.
The purpose of adopting the CCSS is not simply to align with other states, but rather to raise the bar in all grades to ensure that our students are receiving a relevant and rigorous education. The adoption of the CCSS means that your child will be better prepared to meet the demands of college and/or the work place in the 21st century.

Parents of sixth grade students are reminded that subscriptions to the Virtual Backpack at Schiesher do not transfer to Virtual Backpack at Lisle Junior High School. You will need to re-subscribe to LJHS Virtual Backpack.
STAR Tutoring Program
Did you know that we have after school tutoring at Lisle Junior High every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:10-4:50 PM? That's right, our STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) Program offers academic assistance from members of our teaching staff to help students be successful in the classroom.
