Counseling Program

The counseling program is based on the Illinois Developmental School Counseling Model.  The model focuses on student development in the areas of personal/social, career/vocational, and academic/educational.  This helps each student to acquire the various social, interpersonal, emotional, educational, and career skills necessary for success in life.

Mental Health....Emotional/Social/Behavioral Development....Academic Guidance/Planning ....Testing/Appraisal....Career awareness, Planning, and Exploration....College Counseling ....Classroom Guidance Activities

 

Counseling Services:

Individual Counseling....Small Group Counseling....Crisis Counseling....Consultation with Parents....Parent/Teacher Conferences....Referrals to Outside Sources (as requested)

 

Program Activities:

 

S.T.A.R. Group (Students Taking Academic Responsibility) :

     An after-school tutoring program with faculty tutors.  Students can work on and get help with homework, research papers, and B.E.A.R.S assignments. Computers are available for their use.  Students can take the activity bus home or be picked up.  Parents may pick up their student early if necessary.  If the student walks to school he/she may leave early with parent permission. 

 

Classroom Activities / stress management.....decision-making.....relationships.....career awareness.....communication.....problem solving

 

Bullying Prevention Committee / provides knowledge to students about the impact of bullying behavior and strategies to handle these situations.

 

Assignment Notebook Program / teachers in the five major subjects will sign a student's assignment notebook everyday to let parents know what assignments a student has for that day. Contact Mr. Royhl for further details.

 

Study Skills Development / work with students to design and implement strategies to improve performance.
