LRC Update

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. Everyone has received the first of two student ID cards that will be distributed this year. Everyone will receive a new ID by the end of October with this year’s photo.  Students can purchase a new ID for $2.00.  The price of each additional card purchased goes up a dollar in cost.

Don't forget that September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. Have you signed up for your Lisle Public Library card? Stop by the Lisle Library Youth Services Department and pick up your library card today!  Congratulations to the forty-two Lisle Junior High School student's who successfully met their goals and completed this year's Lisle Public Library Summer Reading Program, "Catch the Wave."

We have completed several changes in the LRC to make better use of our space. We have added shelves to our ever growing fiction collection and consolidated our periodicals into one central location.  Other areas that saw minor changes have been our biographies and picture books.

The LRC lab has four scanners available for student usage, while the LRC has added two new scanners available to students when the lab is in use by a classroom.  Don't forget that classroom textbooks are available for your use while in the LRC and are located directly across from the desk of Ms. Gartelos.

The LRC is now open before school, during study hall, and after school. We are open most days from 7:15-3:30 p.m. Check the LRC doors for weekly updates. The LRC’s quarterly contests are back and begin September 7th with “The Common Element.” We have a full slate of new puzzlers, contests, and activities...along with a few of our favorites from the past. You certainly won’t want to miss out on an opportunity to win some great prizes and goodies! Check out the daily puzzlers posted just outside the LRC doors. Look at the samples provided...study the clues...write your name and answer on the provided answer slips...and drop it into the container on the LRC counter. Every time you answer correctly, your name is entered into the contest raffle. The more you try..the better chance you have! Seven correct responses garner you one of our famous “goody” bags. We’re starting the year with a brand new contest... "The Common Element. What is the one thing shared by all three items in the daily clue?  You may have to think outside the box for this contest.  The common element could very well have a different meaning for some of the group.  Example:  What do zipper, shark, and comb have in common?  TEETH

Our other quarterly contests for the 2010-11 school year will include "It Takes Two", "See the U.S.A.", and "Spaced-Out Letters."  Check out the daily puzzler...challenge yourself...win some great prizes.

Catch the excitement and join the daily crowd trying the LRC's first contest!

We will be hosting Lisle’s version of Jeopardy, our annual "Chess and Checkers Tournament," “Scrabble & Snacks,” and our bookmark contest throughout the year. Listen for details on the weekly announcements. Our latest additions to our ever-growing collection are displayed on the tops of the bookshelves and are available for you to check out.  We have added a special shelving unit to display books for curriculum projects....the shelves are located just outside the entrance to the LRC computer lab.  Check them out for that special unit of study.
