5th Graders Try Out Life in Colonial Times
5th grade students at Schiesher School celebrated Colonial Day, where they got to see what life in Colonial Times might have been like. To mark the end of their Social Studies unit on Colonial America, students spent the day participating in different activities that were prevalent in colonial times, such as making yarn dolls and playing colonial games, singing colonial songs, experiencing the differences between modern and colonial schools, and even making their own butter! Students were treated to a Colonial Day Feast, with foods made by the students and their families from recipes common in the mid- 1700’s, such as beef and vegetable stew, corn bread, butternut squash, and apple brown-betty for desert! Many thanks to all our families and volunteers for helping make this year’s Colonial Day celebration a huge success!
