Check Out the LRC and Welcome a Lisle Grad

September 01, 2010

As we open the 2010-11school year we would like to extend a warm welcome to Ms. Lisa Gartelos to Lisle Junior High School as the new LRC Assistant.         Ms. Gartelos is a former  student of Lisle 202 having attended TateWoods,    Schiesher, LJHS, and LSHS.  At Lisle Sr. High School Ms. Gartelos was a three sport student-athlete participating on the volleyball, basketball, and softball squads.  She is a recent graduate of Carthage College majoring in P.E. and Health. She played four years of basketball for the Lady Reds overcoming two knee operations during her career earning 3rd team All-CCIW in 2008.  Ms. Gartelos has also accepted the position as the 8th grade girls’ volleyball coach.

WELCOME ABOARD!

All sixth graders participated in an LRC orientation program the first week of school.  The orientation  included a PowerPoint presentation, a scavenger hunt, ID distribution, and time to check out reading materials.  7th and 8th graders participated in a group activity that reminded all of the students about the LRC’s offerings, procedures, and material location.  Mr. Marx explained to the students of the changes that have been made within the LRC. The students were given their temporary ID cards and time to browse the stacks to find materials to check out. The entire student body will receive a second ID card in October that includes the student’s photo.  Students who lose both of the free IDs are reminded that they may purchase a new photo ID from the LRC.  The first one will cost $2.00 and each additional card increases in price by a dollar.  So keep them in a safe place...you need your ID to use the LRC before school, during study hall, and for book checkout.  The LRC officially opens before school and during study hall September 2nd. The LRC’s first contest of the year, The Common Element, begins September 7th.  Other contests you’ll certainly be challenged by include: “It Takes Two”, “See the U.S.A.”, and “Spaced-Out Letters”.  You also won’t want to miss our annual afternoon of  “Scrabble”, our special January bookmark contest, the February Chess / Checkers tournament, and our spring Jeopardy tournament.  Stop in and check out our new look.  We’ve added shelving to our fiction collection and relocated our periodicals, biographies, and picture books.  Don’t forget we do have copies of our classroom textbooks for you to use in the LRC...they are located on the shelves just outside the LRC computer lab.

We're open most days from 7:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m.  You may want to check the LRC's weekly schedule which is posted on the LRC doorway every week.  Stop in before school, during study hall, or at the close of the day to complete an assignment, use the computers, or check out some great books!  Relax and enjoy the sounds of the fountain and music!
