HI! My name is Svea Patrick and I have been the AFS club sponsor for 9 years. I was an exchange student in high school and it was the most rewarding time I had in high school. My French skills skyrocketed. I made life-long friendships. I gained a whole new family across the ocean. The experience has stayed with me more than any sport or dance from my four years in high school. My family also hosted students from Germany and France. I gained three new sisters in that time. Seeing my surroundings through the eyes of a foreign student also gave me a new perspective and appreciation for my surroundings. I love sponsoring AFS because I get to see friendships being made and I get to see students' eyes open to new perspectives. And you know what? It's just plain, no pressure, fun.

You can still join AFS!  AFS is a multicultural club looking for world peace, one friendship at a time.  We have fun activities throughout the year. Students can join throughout the year and participate as much as they can.

Forms to join are in Ms. Patrick's room (105).  The $5 membership fee offsets the price of our activities.

Contact any of the executive board for information on any of our events.

We will kick off the year with a dinner at Reza's in Oakbrook. Permission slips are in room 105. We will also be exchanging with Rio Vista High School in northern California. We will host approximately 20 students for a long weekend, giving them the Lisle and Chicago experience. Then I will take approximately 20 students to Rio Vista for a long weekend where we will discover the beauty of northern California.

We will also host a lock in where we invite area exchange students to come to LHS on a Friday night and everyone sleeps in the high school. That Saturday, we will head downtown to eat, shop, and explore!

We will also have a variety of opportunities for exploring world cultures throughout the year.

Most importantly, AFS is an international exchange program. You can host a student for a semester or a year. The extensive questionnaires seek to match students with families for a truly enriching experience. AFS also offers scholarships for American students looking to study abroad.
