We are a global community. Our little learners don’t always understand that there are children all around the world that are curious just like them, go to school just like them, and want to learn just like them. Mrs. Polmanteer’s second grade class is venturing out on a virtual adventure to learn how they can learn with others across the world through an innovative, collaborative research project through Skype with Year 3 (second grade) students in Wales. The project launched this month and will continue through the end of the year. Take a look at how they started!
Following their 9th Consecutive Conference Championship, The Lisle Math Team headed to Regionals this past February to compete for a seat at the annual ICTM State Competition at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana on Saturday May 6th. Highlights of the regional competition include a first place finish in the Geometry division. This team consisted of sophomores Elia Chudov, Emily Mao, Patrick Thorton, Mandy Kasier, Jamie Kaiser, and Trevor Haen. Elia won first place overall with the high score in the event. Also, the senior 2-Person team of Hope Keisling and Benji Salzberg took home a second place medal. Congratulations to all 30 of the Lisle Mathletes that competed in the regional competition! As a result of this strong performance, the team qualified for the ICTM State Competition by finishing in the top 15 at the regional competition. Congratulations to our Mathletes!
February was National Children's Dental Health Month. Childhood is the time when good dental habits start and healthy teeth develop. To help our students understand the importance of good oral health, Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation presented an interactive children’s program called “Land of Smiles” featuring the Tooth Wizard and Plaque Man on March 9 to our second graders, preschoolers, and kindergarten students. Students learned proper oral health care techniques and the importance of dental care. The students enjoyed the program and afterwards received oral health “goodie” bags to take home.
The mission of Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation is to improve the oral health of Illinois residents. To fulfill that goal, the foundation offers the “Land of Smiles” program to young children in schools not only to improve oral health, but to influence general health as well.
The 8th Grade Girls Varsity Basketball team is the new overall Conference Champion! Wrapping up conference play after an historic season, the tremendous play of the team earned the title of both the SDEAA Small School and Overall Conference Champions. They achieved what has not been done in over twenty years…they clinched the #1 seed in the SDEAA Conference Tournament and took the Title with a 34-31 win over Burr Ridge.
The team entered the Conference Tournament on a winning streak, finishing the regular season with a 13-1 record. As a “small school” in the conference, clenching the #1 seed in the tournament is extremely difficult due to the way in which the rankings are decided considering large and small school status. This year, that did not stop our 8th Grade Lady Lions from rolling to the top after a number of decisive regular season wins showing the strength and heart of the team. We are Proud of our LJHS Lady Lions!
