Reading to Dogs?
That’s right! Each month, students in the Title I Reading Program at Schiesher School get a visit from R.E.A.D., Reading Education Assistance Dogs. This unique and exciting opportunity allows students to develop their oral reading fluency, as well as boost their confidence and motivation to read! These aren’t just any dogs though. The R.E.A.D. dogs and their owners have met a specific set of rigorous criteria to be considered therapy dog teams. R.E.A.D. to the Dogs has been in place at Schiesher for over 10 years, and hopefully will continue for many years to come! The students look forward to the calming atmosphere and the experience of reading to an attentive and nonjudgmental listener.
