Ecology Club Promoting Earth Hour on March 31st
Earth Hour is a worldwide initiative that has grown tremendously over the past several years. The goal of the event is quite simple: to save energy—to turn off all lights and electronics for one hour on Saturday March 31st. Between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30pm we ask Lisle students and residents to take part in this global event. If you are home that evening, turn off all lights and unnecessary electronics for the hour. Have dinner by candlelight, tell stories in the dark, go for a walk outside…OR come join the Ecology Club at Lisle Village Hall that night and watch as the building goes dark for an hour. The students will hand out candles for those who wish to join our group. They will also be asking how you can go beyond the hour. What more can you do to help the environment?
The students are very enthusiastic about this event. We hope you can join us at the village hall on Saturday March 31st. The building will go dark as close to 8:30 pm as we can get it, so plan on arriving a little early if you can, and please dress for the weather accordingly. For more information, check out the Lisle village website or go to earthhour.org to see what other cities and countries across the globe are promising to do for Earth Hour and beyond.
Watch the local 10 o’clock news that night or read the Sunday paper the next day. Take a look at the astonishing amounts of energy saved in just one hour across the globe and seriously consider what more you can do to help the environment.
