Student Congress
by Marti Truemper
Student Congress is comprised of thirty-nine students who are either elected by the entire student body or appointed by the Student Congress advisor, Mrs. Truemper. Student Congress exposes students to leadership conferences and leadership opportunities. A main goal of Student Congress is to contribute to the well-being and morale of the student population.
Student Congress is totally in charge of all Home Coming activities, school dances, and spirits days. Spirit days are designed to promote school unity and harmless competition. In addition to activities which benefit the student body, Student Congress also sponsors a winter food and clothing drive for needy area residents. Last year, the spring dance, which is traditionally the Turn-a-Bout, raised $1,600 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This year's Turn-a-bout ,held in memory and honor of Joespeh Stevenson, the late son of Mrs Stamper-Stevenson, raised $2,000 for Support the Troups. Last spring, Student Congress sponsored what will now become an annual volleyball tournament The tournament raised $1000.00 for the West Suburban Animal Shelter. Student Congress advisor encourages all Lisle Senior High School students to run for office in the spring elections.
