Jazz Band & Electronic Music

by Scott Gumina

News from Jazz Band.

Congratulations to the Jazz Band for their outstanding first performance of the year at the combined Lisle HS / Benet Academy Jazz concert on Wednesday, November 15th.

Just as a reminder, students are expected to arrive by 6:50 and be ready for rehearsal by 7:00.

We are continuing basics of jazz style and articulation in a variety of ways.  We are also continuing to work daily on the topic of jazz improvisation.  This will include the memorization of short melodies, jazz music theory, jazz scales/modes, chord arpeggios, and patterns.  We are also "sight reading" lots of music in a varieth of styles.

The Lisle High School Jazz Band has been selected to perform at the Frank Mantooth Jazz Festival at New Trier High School on Saturday, February 7, 2009.  This is an all day event and will feature the world-famous Count Basie Band during the evening concert.

News from Electronic Music.

Our students in Electronic Music class have the privilege of working with sophisticated music theory and composition software programs on brand-new Apple Macintosh iMacs as seen in this picture.

Students have completed the Music Theory Unit.

The entire second nine weeks of this course will be devoted toward utilizing our music theory skills and knowledge and incorporating them into musical compositions with a variety of software programs such as Garage Band, Sibelius, Sibelius' Compass Tracker, and Band-in-a-Box.
