6th-8th PHYSICAL EDUCATION - COURSE DESCRIPTION
Physical development and health is designed to introduce students to the concepts and movement skills needed to engage in health enhancing physical activity. Knowledge of safety, rules, and skill techniques will be stressed as well as personal and social skills. Students will begin to apply the principles of training while they work to improve their personal level of physical fitness. A variety of health-related topics including personal care, human growth and development, and nutrition will be covered to provide students with a foundation to make wellness decisions.

The Physical Development and Health curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and movement skills needed to engage in health-enhancing physical activity. Safety, game rules, strategies, and skill techniques are stressed as students participate in a variety of traditional sports and games activities. Students learn to apply the principles of training while they work to improve their personal level of physical fitness. Team-building activities require students to utilize the lifelong skills of problem-solving and cooperation. A variety of topics are also covered in grades six, seven, and eight enabling students to make informed decisions regarding their overall health and wellness.
