PARCC Testing Information for Parents

We will be administering the PARCC (Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Career) assessments in the morning each day during the weeks of March 9 and April 27 to students in Grades 6-8.  It is important that your child arrive on time by 8:00 AM.  PARCC is replacing the ISAT statewide assessments.  The primary purpose of PARCC is to provide high quality assessments of students’ progress toward college and career readiness.  The assessments were created with a focus on the students’ ability to apply a broad range of concepts rather than memorizing facts.  In Math, students are asked to reason and apply mathematical principles.  In English Language Arts, (ELA), students are required to read multiple passages and write essay responses by answering prompts in literary analysis, research and narrative concepts.  Both measure a student’s higher level and critical thinking ability.  Please contact us if you have any questions.

BUG Club Members Announced
Students who became the first members of our junior high BUG (Bring Up a Grade) Club were recently recognized with their names announced at lunch time in front of their peers (who provided loud and long applause).  The 53 students in Grades 6-8 also received a BUG Club wrist band.  To become a member of the BUG Club, a student must raise their grade one letter grade to another from one quarter to the next.  Also, a student cannot go down a grade in any subject while going up a grade in another.  They must maintain their grades and raise at least one.  We hope to see more students join the BUG club by raising their end of second quarter grades to higher grades at the conclusion of the third quarter!
