I've been teaching Art in Lisle
202 since 1990. I started teaching 1st and 2nd grade Art at Tate
Woods, and am currently teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Art at
Scheisher and one section (Mrs.McKenna's class) at Tate Woods.
I often tell people that I have the best job in the whole
school because everyone loves to come to the Art room.
We started the year focusing on elements and principles of design. Everyone did drawings with as many line types as they could imagine. Third graders did a "Bad Hair Day". Fourth and fifth graders chose images like jellyfish, rocket ships, etc. and decorated them with lines. We consider shapes, colors, textures, balance, pattern, contrast, and many other aspects of Art. We study famous artists and their works. The 4th graders will take a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago to see some of these famous paintings and sculptures.
Your children will be learning to use many different types of materials in the art room from paint to paper mache. I encourage imagination, exploration, problem-solving, cooperation, good craftsmanship and more. Ask them about their recent projects, and feel free to call or volunteer to come in and help any time. There is always room for everyone in the Art room!
I am a practicing artist and enjoy the medium of printmaking. My basement studio has a large press and I do everything from traditional copper etch to monotypes and experimental collographs and wood intaglio images. I currently have work on display at the Woodridge Library and the LaGrange Park Library. Come see what I do when I'm not in the classroom. Art is truly one of the things that makes life worthwhile---and I practice what I teach!
Use new eyes to look at the world. Look, and look again. See more before you and consider how we are all connected. At the end of the day, I hope you see beauty all around you
