Last Day of School

As a reminder, our last day of school will now be on May 25th due to the Emergency day that had to be used in February.

Upcoming Assessments

Students in grades 3-5 will be taking the PARCC assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics from April 4th-April 12th. Our 5th grade students will also be taking the IL Science Assessment on April 19th.

Teaching and Learning

Our entire EC-5 staff were busy learning and growing professionally the last few weeks. We were fortunate to host two staff developers from the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. Teachers collaborated on strategies to grow our readers and writers, practiced working with small groups of students, and set goals for future instruction. In addition, we continued professional learning around our new Bridges mathematics curriculum. Teachers focused on assessment, differentiation and the critical areas of focus. Many staff members had the opportunity to attend professional development on our County-wide Institute day. These sessions focused on instructional practices related to specific content areas and provided teachers with the opportunity to collaborate with teachers outside the district. We appreciate and value the time our teachers participate in active, hands on activities that grow them professionally. Great teachers are great learners too!

Thank you for all you do to support our students and Schiesher!  Spring break will be here before you know it.  We hope you enjoy the time with your family.

Kind regards,

Melissa Payne

Principal
