Dear Tate Woods Families,

The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at Tate Woods Elementary School. We practice safety drills throughout the year to help our students know what to do in an emergency. Our school district works closely with local authorities to correctly implement these procedures. The goal of the training drills are to improve our ability to protect students and familiarize them with safety practices and protocol These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve our response skills.

Today, your child participated in a lock down drill at school.  This drill is a part of our crisis plan for Tate Woods.  We worked closely with our School Resource Officer, Dan Taylor, and the Lisle Police Department to conduct this safety drill.

We are pleased with the outcome of today's drill and feel reassured that our safety plans can be implemented effectively by our staff and students.

Please talk with your child, if you deem it appropriate, about the drill. Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures, is to be sure all students feel safe.  When talking about the drill, you might use comments like:

"Your school does drills to make sure that kids and adults know what to do if there were ever an emergency in the building.  During the drills, you don't have to be nervous or scared because they are just practice.  We are all safe during our drills.  You might see police officers at school during the drills, but they are there to help and practice too."

If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call us at 630-493-8050.

Mrs. Gosselink, Principal
