School Psychologists

A School Psychologist participates in student problem solving/support team meetings, consults with staff, parents, and community mental health providers to identify students with potential disabilities, completes psychological evaluations of intelligence, personality, and emotional disorders, and conducts individual and group counseling sessions. School psychologists facilitate referrals for case study evaluations and eligibility conferences and attend IEP conferences of students with disabilities in out of district programs.

School psychologists:

  • Work to find the best solution for each student and situation
  • Use different strategies to address student needs and to improve school and district-wide support systems
  • Work with students individually and in groups
  • Develop programs to train teachers and parents regarding effective teaching and learning strategies, effective techniques to manage behavior at home and in the classroom, working with students with disabilities or with special talents, abuse of drugs and other substances, and preventing and managing crises
