LHS Students Shine at Youth and Government Assembly in Springfield
Youth And Government Club in front of State building

Our LHS Youth and Government Club recently traveled to Springfield for the Illinois Youth and Government Assembly, and we could not be prouder. This year, our delegation grew to 29 students and brought their best, represented Lisle 202 with distinction, and walked away with accomplishments worth celebrating. Take a look at how they experienced the governmental and legislative process firsthand.

Legislators on the House and Senate Floors

Many of our students served as Legislators, writing, proposing, and debating bills alongside students from across the state on the actual floors of the Illinois State Capitol. Several of those bills passed and were signed by the Youth Governor. One standout bill focused on requiring all school staff to become CPR certified. That bill was selected for judicial review, where it survived testimony and opposing arguments to be deemed Constitutional.

Legislative Assistants

Five freshman students participated in the Legislative Assistant program, researching and presenting a forum proposal. Alex N. earned 3rd place for his proposal on school safety. Placing in the top three earns Alex the opportunity to serve as a Legislator next year, a remarkable achievement for an incoming sophomore.

Judicial Component

Five students served as attorneys in the judicial component of the program. They wrote a legal brief and delivered oral arguments in a simulated Illinois Supreme Court environment.

We are grateful to the Lisle Education Foundation and the Lisle Rotary Club for their generous support in making this trip possible. Experiences like this give our students a real-world look at civic leadership, and we could not be more proud of how they represented Lisle 202.
