#LionProud! Congratulations to our Board of Education for earning the School Board Governance Recognition by the Illinois Association of School Boards. Our Board is one of only 20 Boards in the State (out of 852) and only six in DuPage County (out of 42) to receive this year’s honor.
To achieve recognition, our Board of Education participated in a number of tasks beyond their regular duties. By attending workshops, participating in legislative discussions, engaging in trainings and implementing a variety of procedures for the Board, the Lisle 202 Board of Education demonstrated their commitment to improvement and development. Some best practice procedures the Board of Education has implemented are conducting frequent policy reviews, monitoring progress toward District goals, and consistently connecting with the community through forums like Vision 202 and increased communications with our parents and wider community.
The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) is an organization that supports local school boards by “...developing their competence and confidence through a robust toolkit designed to build excellence in local school board governance.” The organization provides training experiences along with other opportunities to build competence so that local school boards may continue to grow in their efforts to support the students and communities of their districts.
According to IASB representative Reatha Owen, Boards of Education who participate in the School Board Governance Recognition Program incorporate principles that are best practices for Board governance. “School Boards that implement these elements are often high-achieving and effective and they support their districts in moving in a positive direction.”
